Report: Bengals Can't Quit WR Henry

POSTED: 11:54 pm CDT August 18, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Cincinnati Bengals are close to signing troubled wide receiver Chris Henry, as reported by the Cincinnati Enquirer Monday.

The Bengals released Henry on April 3 after his fifth arrest since the club made him their third-round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft. Charges for that arrest were later dropped, and, subsequently, Commissioner Roger Goodell's indefinite suspension.

Henry was a productive third option in the Bengals' passing attack over the past three seasons, compiling 88 catches for 1,370 yards and 17 touchdowns.

The 25-year old missed half of the 2007 season with a league suspension for his continued run-ins with the law. His brushes include possession of marijuana and providing alcohol to minors.

The West Virginia product caught 21 passes for 343 yards and two touchdowns after being reinstated midway through last season.

For his repeated violations of the league's personal conduct policy, Henry will miss the first four games of the 2008 season, but will still be able to participate in practice and preseason games.
