Drew's fascination with weather and television started at a very early age in the Midwest. Drew was born in Green Bay, Wis., before migrating south toward Northern Illinois.

"Living in the suburbs of Chicago gave me the opportunity to experience some extreme weather conditions. When the weather turned nasty, I loved to watch the great television personalities in Chicago tell me the story," Michaels said. "I was fortunate to discover what I wanted to do since middle school, so I was able to prepare myself for a career in television at a very young age." Drew graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in meteorology and a minor in journalism. While in college, Drew worked as a reporter and meteorologist for CNN Local Headline news in DeKalb, Ill.

Drew joined the 40/29 Super Doppler Weather Team as weekend meteorologist. In 2003 Drew was named Meteorologist for 40/29 Your Hometown News Sunrise and he earned the AMS seal of approval. In 2006 Drew was promoted to Chief Meteorologist for 40/29.

"I'm looking forward to the opportunity to do what I love in tornado alley," Michaels said.

One of Drew's most recent memories that molded his interest in weather was the 1990 Plainfield, Ill., tornado that struck about 10 miles from his home.

"That tornado was one of the worst in our history. Many people lost their lives in that storm, so if I can help the public prepare for the weather, I'll be doing my job."

Drew is an active snow skier and has a strong love for the Green Bay Packers. "I have always supported my beloved green and gold, and being born in Green Bay it is a part of me, just like the weather is."

Drew and his wife, Adrienne, have two yorkies, Brady and Allie. They live in Fort Smith.
