ROGERS, Ark. -- It seems that recently, everyone is looking to save money however they can. On Saturday, garage sales proved to be a top draw for those that were willing to do some hunting for the cheapest goods they could find."When I opened the garage, they swarmed," said Phyllis Hancock, who hosted a garage sale in Rogers."You still want to try to save as much as you can where you can," said Daniel Rodriguez, who was one of the buyers at another garage sale a few blocks away.
From stereos to sandals to saddles, a determined buyer could find virtually anything at dozens of garage sales in the area on Saturday. And most agreed the products on sale were all fairly inexpensive."A lot of times, I can find things one thing at a time, or two items at a time, cheaper than I can do at a store," said Joy Hamby, who was shopping at Hancock's sale.Although there were TVs and hand-crafted furniture on sale, the majority of shoppers were fixated on the goods you could grab for just a handful of change."All the less expensive items sold pretty fast," said Bill Johnson, who hosted a garage sale in Rogers as well. But there were a few exception to that rule. Rodriguez found just the piece of wood furniture he was looking for."Quality piece of furniture. We're gonna use it for a DVD shelf," Rodriguez said.He said he spent less on that purchase than he would have at a traditional store."We're just out looking for bargains and when you find one you can't pass up, you take it and run with it," Rodriguez said. And don't forget about the sellers. They're getting an income boost at the best possible time."Oh yeah, it'll help out. It'll help out a lot," Johnson said.
