POTEAU, Okla. -- LeFlore County voters will decide next month whether to approve an exemption on their personal property taxes.Homeowners currently pay taxes every year on household property, including furniture and individually owned livestock. But county leaders said the process of assessing those items is time-consuming and costly.
"This will help every homeowner in the county save a little bit on their taxes," said LeFlore County assessor Tim Trent. "It will certainly save tax dollars in that it will help this office and the treasurer's office."The measure is listed on the ballot as Proposition 1.If it passes, school millage rates will be increased to compensate for the lost revenue.Fifty-eight of Oklahoma's 77 counties have voted to eliminate personal property taxes.
