Leflore County voters will have the chance to change a liquor law this November.

Right now, restaurants in the county cannot sell wine or liquor but they can sell beer. If approved, the new law will allow those sales within restaurants.

Officials within the county say the new law would bring more businesses to Leflore County. "We're hot right now. We're being looked at. If we do pick up the alcohol by the drink than we can possibly get chain restaurants to come," said Poteau Mayor Jeff Shockley.

Officials say right now residents drive to neighboring cities, like Fort Smith, so they can drink liquor with their food, causing the county to lose out. That's money the mayor says could go to many needed projects in Leflore County. " It's a tax increase without putting a tax increase on the people."
