State Question No. 743 May Change Wine Sales

UPDATED: 8:21 pm CDT October 13, 2008

Currently, wineries in Oklahoma are not allowed to sell their wine to restaurants or package stores, without using a wholesale distributor, but a new measure may change the way wineries do business.

State Question No. 743 May Change Wine Sales

State question No. 743 will address the issue of liquor distributing in Oklahoma this November, allowing voters to choose.

If passed, the new measure will allow wineries to transport their own product, cutting out distributors.

Wineries, like the Black Sheep Winery in Poteau, Okla., report a 20 percent increase in profit if they can sell without a distributor.

The new law would only be in effect for wineries that produce up to 10,000 gallons of wine and sell within Oklahoma.
