More details are coming to light after police said a 75-year-old woman shot her husband while he slept.

Police said Myrtle Walter admitted she shot and killed her 74-year-old husband, Paul, because he wanted to have sex and she refused.

Police got the call from Myrtle Walter's daughter at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, "reporting that her mother had had an accident and didn't give a lot of any other details,” said Rogers Police Chief Steve Helms.

When crews arrived, police said Myrtle Walter was very upset, but she wasn't trying to conceal anything.

"She was very upfront. She said she shot her husband,” Helms said.

Police said Walter told them that she was at her wits end and she made up her mind to kill her husband.

According to the police report, Walter took a gun from a nightstand while her husband slept. She made sure it was loaded, then shot her husband three times.

"They'd had some disagreements of different things. She was fed up, and she did what she thought she had to do," Helms said.

Police said Walter accused her husband of mental abuse, and she said he wanted to have sex even though she did not.

"She said it was more than she could bear, because it was a re-occurring request on his part,” Helms said.

She told police she planned on killing her husband. She said she was sorry for what she did, but she was relieved Paul Walter was gone.

Neighbors said the couple appeared to be happy. They often sat together and visited with neighbors outside their home in Rogers.

Myrtle Walter has been charged with capital murder, and she remains in jail without bond.
