BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Government and volunteer organizations are preparing to deal with potential damage caused by Gustav. The world's largest retailer is also preparing for the storm by shipping necessities to the region most likely to be effected by the storm.
Walmart Prepares For Hurricane Gustav“Part of what we do here is look for all threats to our facilities, our associates, our customers. Right now we’re looking at Gustav,” said meteorologist Lucus McDonald.
McDonald works for Wal-Mart as a staff meteorologist in the emergency operations center in Bentonville.When a hurricane is headed for shore, the Wal-Mart emergency operations center fills with people organizing supplies and necessities needed in a storm damaged area.“Hurricane season is our busiest time of year,” said McDonald.Already trucks filled with items like flashlights, batteries and water are being sent to the Gulf Coast.The company uses technology and every resource available to prepare for a hurricane and the damage it may leave behind.
