UPDATED: 9:36 pm CDT July 23, 2008

Three top officials at the Decatur School District have been called to testify in an investigation about the district’s financial activities.

School Board President Michael Wilkins, bookkeeper Terri Burden and suspended superintendent Dave Smith have all been issued subpoenas.

The three are set to appear at the Benton County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. The exact nature of the investigation has not been publicized.

Decatur was added to the list of fiscally distressed schools earlier this month. State leaders are considering whether to annex the schools to other nearby districts.
