Detroit Tigers (62-64) At Texas Rangers (62-65), 8:05 P.m.
(Sports Network) - The Detroit Tigers will try to complete their second consecutive three-game sweep of the Texas Rangers, as the two teams conclude their set tonight in Arlington. Detroit has won all five of its meetings with Texas this year -- plating at least eight runs in each win -- and has won seven straight over the Rangers dating back to last year. That includes a three-game sweep at home on April 22-24. The Tigers haven't swept the Rangers in Texas since May 1-3, 2001. Detroit used a nine-run seventh inning on Tuesday versus Texas to coast to an 11-3 win. Matt Joyce hit a three-run homer in the frame, his second long ball of the game. Edgar Renteria also went deep in the inning, while Gary Sheffield, Miguel Cabrera and Magglio Ordonez each drove in a run in the win. Former Ranger Armando Galarraga earned the win with six innings of three-run ball, lifting Detroit to its fourth win in six games. The Tigers, though, are still 11 games back in the wild card race and 10 1/2 games off the pace in the American League Central. Chris Davis had a three-run homer to account for all of the offense for Texas, which has dropped three in a row and 11 of its last 13 overall. Vicente Padilla was saddled with the loss as he gave up five runs in six-plus innings of work. Texas got some good news before the game when it learned that All-Star second baseman Ian Kinsler might not need surgery on his sports hernia, which would have ended his season, as the ailment might be just a strain and not a tear. However, the Rangers did see designated hitter Milton Bradley leave last night's game in the seventh inning due to soreness in his left knee. Kevin Millwood will make his second start for the Rangers since returning from a stint of his own on the disabled list due to a strained right groin. He faced Tampa Bay on Friday and took the loss, allowing five runs on 10 hits -- including four homers -- with seven strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings. The right-hander is 6-7 with a 5.58 earned run average this year and 3-4 with a 4.23 ERA in nine career starts versus the Tigers, who he faces for the first time this year tonight. Detroit starter Nate Robertson will also face the Rangers for the first time this season, a club he is 3-4 against in 10 career starts with a 3.67 ERA. The left-hander has endured a rough season for the Tigers. He halted an eight- start winless stretch (0-2) with 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball on August 10 versus Oakland, but fell right back into the loss column on Friday after allowing five runs (4 earned) on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings versus Baltimore. Robertson is 7-9 with a 5.87 ERA this year.
