NCAA Game Summary - Rice At Tulsa

(Sports Network) - David Johnson threw for 177 yards and four touchdowns and the Tulsa Golden Hurricane routed the Rice Owls, 63-28, in Conference USA action at Chapman Stadium.

Johnson connected on 13-of-25 pass attempts with one interception for Tulsa (5-0, 2-0 CUSA), which racked up 577 total yards of offense. Brennan Marion hauled in four balls for 76 yards and a touchdown, while Damaris Johnson had the same amount of catches for 59 yards and a score of his own. Tarrion Adams guided the ground attack with 112 yards on 23 carries and Charles Opeseyitan even got involved with 94 yards and a touchdown on 10 totes.

Chase Clement led Rice (3-3, 2-1) with 321 yards and a two touchdowns on 22- of-42 throws. He was picked off once, but paced the team with 40 rushing yards on 15 carries. Jarett Dillard was one of his main outlets, as he posted seven catches for 142 yards and a score. James Casey even had a big game, logging nine receptions for 120 yards and a touchdown. He also had a rushing and passing touchdown to his credit in this one.

Tulsa opened the game's scoring with a 15-yard touchdown run by A.J. Whitmore midway through the first quarter.

Rice countered late in the fame behind Casey, who rumbled two yards to paydirt.

Less than a minute into the second quarter the Hurricane regained the lead, as Johnson threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Marion.

Clement hit Dillard on a 25-yard scoring strike late in the frame to knot the score at 14-14.

With just over a minute left, Johnson threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Damaris Johnson to give Tulsa a 21-14 edge at the half.

The Hurricane came out of the gate quickly in the second half, scoring two touchdowns in the opening three minutes. Slick Shelley first returned a punt 25 yards for a score before Johnson tossed a 21-yard touchdown pass to Charles Clay.

Rice made it a 35-21 game with a two-yard scoring strike from Casey to Taylor Wardlow midway through the third quarter.

Late in the third quarter Tulsa added to its lead behind a two-yard touchdown pass from Johnson to Clay.

The Hurricane continued to pour it on, as Courtney Tennial plunged one yard for a score early in the fourth quarter.

Whitmore than scurried nine yards to push Tulsa's advantage to 56-21.

Midway through the finale fame Clement hooked up with Casey on a six-yard scoring pass.

A 35-yard touchdown run minutes later by Opeseyitan gave the Hurricane a 63-28 lead.

Tulsa forced four turnovers in the contest, while committing just one itself.
