NCAA Game Summary - Arkansas State At Southern Mississippi

POSTED: 7:13 pm CST November 24, 2007

(Sports Network) - Damion Fletcher carried 27 times for 133 yards and a touchdown, leading the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles to a 16-10 win over the Arkansas State Indians in non-conference action at Roberts Stadium.

Justin Estes kicked three field goals for the Golden Eagles (7-5), who have now won five straight in the head-to-head series.

Corey Leonard had a rough day under center for Arkansas State (5-7), completing just 9-of-23 passes for 118 yards and an interception.

The Indians got on the board first, thanks to a first-quarter interception that set up Josh Arauco's 24-yard field goal in the opening minute of the second quarter.

The Golden Eagles put together a a seven-play scoring drive in the final minute of the half, with Fletcher crossing the goal line on a one-yard plunge.

Estes gave Southern Miss a 10-3 lead on a 21-yard field goal with 9:23 to play in the third quarter.

But Arkansas State would tie the game later in the same quarter, as Brandon Thompkins capped off an 11-play, 80-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown run.

Estes was the difference in the fourth quarter, however, as the freshman kicker put the game away with field goals of 29 and 37 yards. The Indians got the ball back late and drove to the Southern Miss 23, but Golden Eagles linebacker Gerald McRath came up with a big stop on a fourth-and-one.

The Golden Eagles scored on all four of their red-zone opportunities, while the Indians went just 2-for-4.
