Jonesboro, AR -- (Sports Network) - Arkansas State has named former LSU head coach John Brady its new men's basketball coach.Brady was out of job for just over a month, as he was fired by LSU in early February, less than two years after leading the Tigers to the Final Four. LSU was 8-13 this season and just 1-6 in the SEC when Brady was dismissed. "I am excited about the opportunity to lead the Arkansas State men's basketball program to a position I feel like it deserves in the Sun Belt Conference," said Brady on Wednesday. "Our goal is not only to play for conference championships, but to advance to the NCAA Tournament. This has always been considered a great basketball community and region that will support this basketball program in a big way. Not only is it our goal to win championships, but to lead the Sun Belt Conference in attendance because of the great fans this university has. We are excited about it and look forward to the opportunities that are ahead." Brady, who took over a scandal-ridden LSU program from Dale Brown, was in his 11th season with the Tigers. He posted a record of 192-139 overall with a mark of just 69-93 in the SEC. The Tigers made six trips to the NCAA Tournament and two NIT appearances under Brady. Before taking the LSU job, Brady spent six seasons at Samford and registered a mark of 89-77. "We are delighted to hire someone with great credentials," said ASU athletic director Dr. Dean Lee. "Coach Brady was a strong candidate from his initial interest and is a wonderful fit for Arkansas State." Arkansas State needed a replacement for Dickey Nutt, who resigned in February after posting a record of 198-197 in 13 seasons. The Indians, soon to be Red Wolves, finished this season just 10-20 overall and 5-13 in the Sun Belt Conference with assistants Shawn Forrest and Al Grushkin as co-interim coaches.
